The Epsilon Upsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently purchased a computer with free Internet for a year for Janiese Robinson, a high school student who attends Mobile County Training School. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the sorority also collected donations on campus for a service project called Carnations for a Cure. They raised over $300 on campus to purchase carnations for cancer patients at the Mobile Infirmary West Hospital. For community service, the sorority volunteered at the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home every month to host a bingo game for the residents.
The Pi Omega chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will be hosted a costume party on Oct. 26 in the Student Center ballroom. It was a huge success as many students from several colleges in Mobile came out to participate in the ghostly event.
The Iota Nu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness walk on Oct. 27 at 8 a.m. at the USA track and field. The sorority is currently implementing a tutoring program called Project Delta for inner city youth high school students every Tuesday with their graduate members in the area. The ladies will be hosting a Polka Dots and Plaids party on Nov. 9, 2007 at 10:13 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom. On Nov. 11, the chapter will hold a Harvest Tea at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Terrace to raise money for a needy family. The raised funds will be used to provide the family with food for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
The Delta Lambda chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will be hosting a Halloween party on October 31 in the Student Center Ballroom at 10:20 p.m. On November 6, the chapter will hold a movie night viewing the movie Ghost at 7:20 p.m. in the Beta/Gamma Commons Area. The sorority will be having a bake sale in the Student Center breezeway on November 7 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., in which they will also provide coloring for kids and a raffle. On November 8, the chapter will have an interest meeting at 7:20 p.m. in the Student Center Art Gallery to provide information to people who are interested in becoming a potential member of the sorority.
