The Oracle, USA's fine frts review is getting ready to begin work on the 2008 edition. This literary and fine arts magazine publishes student and community work in areas including fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, screenplay, essay, painting, illustration, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
Mobile Opera produced Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata," translated "The Fallen One," for the first part of their 2007-2008 season under the baton of Maestro Jerome Shannon and direction of Joe Bascetta. Based on the novel "La dame aux Camélias" by Alexandre Dumas, "Traviata" tells the story of Violetta Valrey, a courtesan and her lover Alfredo Germont in its dramatic three acts.
This past Friday night, Oct. 26, Arts! Alive appeared on Dauphin Street. Numerous booths, artists and galleries were open for exploration. Various artists were available to chat with and music, food and wine were readily accessible. The Student Art Association had a large area reserved including a booth, tables and easels.
The Mobile Theatre Guild kept the crowd laughing this past Friday night with their rendition of writer Ron Hutchinson's "Moonlight and Magnolias," the original title of the epic "Gone With the Wind." The play, set in Los Angeles 1939, reimagines the chaos surrounding the halted production of "Gone With the Wind" and the replacement of the movie's director, George Cukor.
On Nov. 3, the Mobile Ballet will be performing their first production this fall, "A Gala Evening." This spectacular one-night event will feature top performers from the New York City Ballet alongside the Mobile Ballet dancers. The program will consist of Act II from "Swan Lake.
