San Francisco native band Tea Leaf Green played the Soul Kitchen Oct. 12. The group is made up of members Josh Clark, guitar and vocals, Ben Chambers, bass and vocals, Scott Rager, drums, and Trevor Garrod, keyboard and vocals. The Soul Kitchen had a great crowd Friday night, many of them Tea Leaf Green fans. Their musical style is unique, part rock with a focus on piano and guitar talents. Tea Leaf Green has been on tour since the release of their last CD "Rock 'n' Roll Band" in late 2006. The band has seen amazing growth in its fan base and gained national acclaim with their first album, "Taught to Be Proud." This is due entirely to the fans, like the ones in the Soul Kitchen during Tea's latest live show.

Another fan, USA junior Cole Vayda, also approves of Tea Leaf Green's musical style. "Tea Leaf Green brings back an element of rock-n-roll that has been lost," Vayda said. While the band has a loyal following, their musical style may not keep the attention of every person to hear them. The music does tend to be fairly repetitive, and the vocals are decent but unoriginal.

Personally, I was more than ready for them to finish their set. While they have talent and the audience seemed impressed, I wondered what all the fuss was about when it came to Tea Leaf Green. There were highlights, such as Garrod's keyboard skills and steady vocals and the occasional guitar solo by Clark.

Overall, the Soul Kitchen crowd enjoyed the show. The band delivered the kind of show expected of them and will go on to play more venues in other towns. For more information about Tea Leaf Green, and some samples of their music, visit their page at http://www.myspace.com/tealeafgreen.
