It is Aug. 23, 5:00 a.m. Michael Crocker of Citronelle has called 9-1-1, claiming he has been attacked. He claims that his attacker cut out his tongue and gouged out his eyes.

Incidentally, one week earlier, Crocker's neighbor and employee, Stephen Perret was murdered and placed in Crocker's gunshot-damaged truck. There is also over $200, 000 missing from Vulcan Industries, of which Crocker is part owner.

Now, mid-October, Crocker is a prime suspect, as of Oct. 5, in the Perret murder case, and has been charged with theft, and it has also been stated by officials that Crocker cut out his own tongue with a razor blade in attempt to lure investigators away from him. Deputies were quoted saying that based on the "forensics evidence, the blood investigation, the blood spatters … physical evidence obtained from in the house, and different stories by Mr. Crocker, he had to have done this himself." When asked if Crocker had anything to say to the Perret family he awkwardly replied, "They know good and well I didn't do this."

But seriously, what person doesn't even mention that the family is in his/her thoughts or prayers when he/she is fighting the government as a prime suspect for murder. The least he could have said was that he was sorry for their loss. To me, that alone states his guilt in the matter.

Oct.9 was Crocker's court date to find out if he would receive bond. Unfortunately, to officials, he looked like he was a flight risk -- meaning, he looked like he wanted to get the hell out of there. Crocker was sent back to Metro without bond.

On Oct. 10, the judge was overruled by Judge Joseph Johnston with a $100,000 bond; half of it must be posted cash only. Only Crocker's attorney was present, who told the court that Crocker is officially pleading "not guilty."

I am sure that many of you have seen the videos circulating around the news and the Internet. His quirky smile and appalling neglect of concern for the victim's family creeps me out. He looks as though he is proud of himself, as if this is all a game to him. His next court date is set in December.

You can see why Mel Showers claims that "it's a story with more twists than a soap opera." No one knows what the news will have to say tomorrow or the day after about Michael Crocker.

News 5 spent Oct. 11, 2007, in Louisiana with Perret's parents and siblings. His father, with tears streaming down his faced, wanted to ask Crocker what his son could have possibly done that cost him his life. Even if his son knew something about the money that was stolen, it was not worth his life. "I don't sleep at night," said Perret's father. "What did he do to you …that made you take his life?"

Perret left behind a wife and three children.
