The University of South Alabama's Campaign Leadership program recently marked its 18-month anniversary of its 3-year phase. Campaign Leadership is USA's first comprehensive fund-raising campaign. In the past 18 months, the team has raised $58.6 million, with donations from more than 15,000 people.
The Campaign USA Leadership team is comprised of local business and national leaders, many of which are alumni.
USA has established a goal of $75 million in private support, which it will seek to raise over the next three years. This program was launched in March 2006.The donations will be distributed among faculty, students, campus construction and several USA programs.
"The University of South Alabama has helped lead to a higher standard of education, better health care, an enhanced economy, and richer art, cultural and entertainment opportunities for all people," USA President Gordon Moulton said. "Through Campaign USA, we will depend on the generous assistance of alumni, friends and supporters to further strengthen our position of leadership."
The leadership team is doing great work to ensure the success of the program, while at the same time working to enrich all aspects of the University.
"For the third consecutive six-month reporting period during the public phase of Campaign USA, we have exceeded our goals thanks to the diligence and hard work of our campaign chair, Jim Yance, and the members of the Campaign USA Leadership team," Joseph Busta, vice president for development and alumni relations, said.
The funding will specifically go toward undergraduate and graduate scholarships, health care innovations, classroom and laboratory equipment and the campus bell tower.
One major recent donor includes a $500,000 gift from the Monte L. Moorer Foundation of Mobile to USA Children's & Women's Hospital. These funds will be used to update the hospital's testing of neonatal, pediatric and obstetric patients. The new Louise Moorer Radiographic/Fluoroscopy Suite will include diagnostic equipment that will allow radiologists to visually see inside the patient's body and will be allowed for tests to be done.
