On Oct. 16, USA welcomes back entertainer Stevie Starr, also known as "The Regurgitator." When this nickname appears on signs around campus, it is no play on words. Stevie Starr actually is a regurgitator! He swallows various foreign objects he provides, as well as audience submissions, and then brings them back up.
"The cool thing is that he brings them up dry," says Lesley Citizen of Jaguar productions.
Stevie Starr is about 40 years old and has made a career out of traveling around and performing his strange but entertaining show.
"He swallows rings, money, tacks magnets, eight balls, almost anything," Citizen says. Believe it or not, simply swallowing and regurgitating is not the amazing part. Stevie Starr can swallow a bunch of tacks and a magnet, have an audience member give him a number of tacks, and he will regurgitate the magnet with that number of tacks on it.
Citizen recants one particularly amazing stunt where he swallowed a film canister and a fish and brought them back up with the fish inside the canister with the lid on! Another cool thing is that he does not gag.
"He sort of hits his chest and makes a noise, but he does not gag," Citizen adds.
It just seems natural that swallowing such strange foreign objects and throwing them back up would make a person gag. To really bring home the fact that he is bringing this stuff up dry, Starr swallows a package of artificial sweetener and brings it back up completely dry and in its powder form!
It is no wonder Jaguar Productions wants to bring him back!
Students who attended Stevie Starr's presentation last year say it was one of the craziest things they have ever seen. "It is an amazing show," comments Lesley Citizen. There are many things students can do on a Tuesday night, but there are certainly none as entertaining and mind-boggling as "The Regurgitator."
There is no question that the Student Center Ballroom is the place to be on Oct. 16, 2007. Not only will there be a great show, but there are door prizes as well.
Winning tickets to see Lifehouse at the Mitchell Center is a pretty good reason to go to Stevie Starr's presentation. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. It will definitely be worth seeing!
