On Oct. 6 at approximately 4:35 p.m., police responded to reports of shots being fired on the University of South Alabama campus in the vicinity of the Delta dorms.

When police arrived, they found two individuals in possession of firearms, according to eyewitness accounts. USA police confiscated a black Glock .40 caliber and a black Glock .45 caliber from the individuals, according to a USA police incident report.

One of the two, Alexis T. Bell, a 21-year-old South Alabama student, was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city or on school property, a class C felony, according to the report.

Bell was later released on $3,000 bail.

Bell reported to the responding officer Mike Rowe that he was unloading the .40 caliber Glock into a tree "in order to empty the clip," according to Rowe.

The second student, who was found in possession of the .45 caliber Glock, was not arrested.

USA police Chief Norman Gamache refused to release the students name.
Both students were cited for being in violation of university policy for unauthorized possession of a weapon and are subject to university discipline policy.

School disciplinary policy typically requires suspension and allows for expulsion of students who bring unauthorized weapons on campus.
