The University of South Alabama is planning to build the new recreational center beginning in early 2008. The designs and plans have been approved. The new 115,000 square foot facility will include many amenities such as an indoor and outdoor heated pool, saunas, a whirlpool, a three-court gym, four racquetball courts, table tennis area, a center court for soccer and roller hockey, aerobic rooms, weight rooms, one-eighth track, a spinning room, and a 35-45 foot rock-climbing wall surrounded by glass. An outdoor recreational center will be located adjacent to the complex, where canoes, kayaks, camping equipment and backpacking equipment will be available for loan. USA officials anticipate the new center will be completed as soon as fall 2009. The Rec. Center will be available for use by all returning and new students, faculty, staff and alumni.
