Hello, everyone.
It is getting about that time for school to be over. In the Greek community, it seems like we are just getting started.
April promises a super-busy schedule for Greek life, so get ready to show everyone what Greeks stand for.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha Omicron Pi softball tournament, which contributed to the Strike Out Arthritis Foundation. I hope you all had fun.
Also, the ladies of Kappa Delta held their annual Shamrock 5k Run and raised $8,381, donating $1,676 to Prevent Child Abuse America and over $6,700 to the Penelope House. This is what Greek organizations strive to accomplish as a whole - to raise money for local philanthropies. Thanks to all the participants in the 5k run.
The gentlemen of Kappa Alpha Order held their first "Old South" parade in which different sororities and fraternities built floats and traveled around the campus, benefiting muscular dystrophy. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Ladies from each sorority represented South Alabama's Greek organizations by attending the Southeastern Panhellenic Conference (SPEC) held in Atlanta, Ga. These sorority women, along with 1,000 other women from the Southeast region, attended rallies and seminars, offering tips on how to better each chapter. I hope all of you ladies had an amazing time.
The gentlemen of Kappa Sigma fraternity are holding their annual Easter Extravaganza on April 7 at 11 a.m. in the sorority commons to help benefit the Boys and Girls Club. There will be Easter egg hunts, food and entertainment. Come out and support these gentlemen as well as the Boys and Girls Club. It will be tons of fun.
It's that time again for the Pi Kappa Alpha's annual Pikefest dance competition on April 6, so get ready. Pikefest is a weeklong event starting April 2 at 1 p.m. There will be penny drops and carnival games as well as a crawfish boil on April 5 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5.
The Greek Awards were held on March 20, so congratulations to all who won awards, and thanks to all who attended.
The gentlemen of Sigma Chi are also holding their annual Derby dance competition on April 20, during which they raise money for Children's Miracle Network. Good luck on practices. You will all do amazing.
The Greek community has a whole lot going on, and this is an amazing opportunity to show others what all we stand for - community service and excelling on campus. Good luck and have a beautiful week. Go Greek!
