This past Friday March 23, from 6-8 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the USA library artists and poets came together for an opening reception of "Art Inspired by Poetry." This was a collaboration between the English students of Dr. Sue Walker and the art students of Claire Evanglista to come together and create works of art.
"The student aspect of this faculty art exhibit is the result of a year-long collaboration between her poetry students and Claire Evanglista's art students. Last semester, the art students brought their work to the poets in the English department. The result was ekphrastic poetry-creative work that took its inspiration from the visual art," said Walker.
"This semester the poets presented their poems to the art students, and the result was artwork inspired by poems, the work presented in this exhibition. Future plans may include a team-taught course open to students who are interested in multi-representational creative experiences. For next year, we hope to feature music inspired by both poetry and art."
The show presents an array of poetry as well as paintings, drawings and mixed media pieces. "I just imagined what the poet might be trying to express with his words, mental images and emotions," said Jaime Ford, USA art student.
