The Mobile Arts Council will feature the work of a USA alumnus Rebecca Brown from March 1 to 26. The exhibit, titled “Transformations,” was Brown’s senior show at USA.
Brown’s work has been featured locally at the Skinny Gallery and online at ifontis.com.
According to Brown, “transformation is a process which proceeds birth and is a part of life that cannot be avoided.” Brown chose an oyster, “an ordinary and mundane object,” as the subject of her paintings in hopes of transforming it into something beautiful through her artwork.
Brown combines “naturalistic renderings” with “a relatively small degree of abstraction” in hopes of making the oyster into something “extraordinary, unique, and beautiful.”
